Welcome! The Connecticut Coalition for Inclusive Education
is a statewide non-profit organization committed to advocating for
inclusive education for students with disabilities. The Coalition
believes that every student, regardless of the severity of his or her
disability, should be provided with the staff, space, equipment, and
assistive technology needed for an individualized education in typical
age-appropriate classes.
The Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act (IDEA, 2004), formerly known as
Public Law 94-142, which was passed in 1975 and reauthorized in 1990,
1997, and 2004,
mandates that all children receive a free, appropriate public education
. It provides funds to assist states in the education of students with
disabilities and requires that states ensure that each student receives
an individualized education program based on their unique needs in the
least restrictive environment possible. IDEA also provides guidelines
for determining what related services are necessary and outlines a "due
process" procedure to make sure these needs are adequately met.
